The V&A has appointed Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), with Studio Adrien Gardère and Austin-Smith:Lord, to lead the design of a pioneering new Collection and Research Centre planned for Here East in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The project is part of an Olympic legacy collaboration with other world-leading institutions across culture and education. In this extent, equipped with learning activities and public programs, the research center seeks to engage the general public as well as professionals.
The Collection and Research Centre will be occupied with the V&A’s vast collection of objects in a new proposed form of storage and public display. Planned from the inside-out, V&A Here East will be like stepping into an immersive cabinet of curiosities—a three-dimensional sampling of the eclectic collection of artifacts, programmed with diverse spaces for research, object study, workshops, and back-of-house functions.
The proposed scenography will give visitors, researchers and staff new ways to interact with the richness and potential of the V&A’s national collections and archives.
