Studio Adrien Gardère, in collaboration with Pierre-Jean Picart , architect, won the competition in 2016 to design the renovation and the extension of the Museum of Tahiti and her islands - Te Fare Manaha.
This transformation and extension of the exhibition spaces offer a unique and new perspective on Polynesian art and culture to the public. The museum complex aims to be a place of encounter with a cultural heritage and its historical, scientific, artistic, identity and pedagogical stakes.
The museography deploys a contemporary approach breaking with the traditional standards of scenography, inscribingthe project'scapacity for evolution at the heart of the project by removing all partitions. To refer to the wide geographical and cultural areas of Polynesia, the scenography develops itself in archipelagos, island activating themes and sequences.
The scenography allows a better understanding of the five main Polynesian archipelagos, their connections and cultural characteristics along with influences of the contacts with occidental societies.
