The Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo is home to one of the largest collections of Islamic art in the world.

In 2004, the General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt commissioned Studio Adrien Gardère to carry out the museum's complete renovation, including the artistic direction and supervision of the building’s renovation, the whole collection's circulation and museography.

Studio Adrien Gardère used the building’s inner logic to determine the public flow, the exhibition design and the distribution of contents. The project rehabilitates the original proportions of the building, its fantastic perspectives and the transversal dialogue from room to room. The museography makes the best of all of the building’s openings, niches and arches. The Studio also designed specifics claustra, to make the best of the natural light in the museum whilst respecting the artifacts conservation.

This project was supported by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and benefited from the scientific cooperation and expertise of the Musée du Louvre, inaugurated in August 2010.
