The Studio Adrien Gardère won a competition to convert into a museum the house of Doctor Gachet, major art collector and Vincent Van Gogh’s last doctor and friend.

From his prolific life in his house, only the ghost marks of former wall hangings remain.

Turning his home into a museum required conveying an atmosphere of intimacy, a perfume of history and of everyday life, as well as recalling the specters of the famous artists who visited the house. The scenography is based on this evanescent feeling: phantom tables, transparent paintings, shadow furniture, illuminated texts all seem as if they might just disappear at any moment. This very sensory perception proposed to the visitor reflects the artistic spirit of that period and of one of its greatest collector.
