For the first international retrospective in China of Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, the Yuz Museum in Shanghai invited Studio Adrien Gardère to create a unique installation around the artist's sculptures in the museum's Great Hall.
Following the Tsunami of 2011, Yoshitomo Nara began to practice sculpture: he created monumental faces with serene expressions through which he evoked solitude, rebellion and spirituality.
To exhibit his sculptures - prototypes, emblematic or unpublished bronze and ceramic works - Studio Adrien Gardère designed a park of more than 500m2 inspired by Japanese Zen gardens and French gardens: an invitation to reverie and to the wandering of both body and soul.
"Yoshitomo Nara Sculpture Park" is the fifth collaboration between Studio Adrien Gardère and the Yuz Museum, following the Alberto Giacometti retrospective in 2016, the Andy Warhol exhibition and the Over Pop exhibition in 2017, and the Charlie Chaplin retrospective in 2018.
