Since 2005 Studio Adrien Gardère was in charge of the artistic direction and design of all exhibitions and installations of the international festivals of the Kennedy Center, the largest center of performing arts in the US, which offers more than 8.000 m2 of exhibition spaces.
China Chic — the first international festival staged by the Studio — was one of the largest Chinese festivals ever held in the US.
The central exhibition featured a collection of 2000-year-old terracotta warriors belonging to Xian Emperor Qin's army, the fashion creations of fifteen contemporary stylists of Chinese origin (including Vera Wang, Yeohlee, Zang Toi, Shanghai Tang, etc.), two Chinese jewelers and jewelry from Cartier’s Dragon Kiss collection, as well as four historic pieces from the Textile Museum of Washington.
The design — consisting of 5 km of Chinese rope and more than 300 traditional knots, symbols of welcome and good hospices — is a visual and metaphorical game on the ties woven between the China of today and the one of yesterday, and on the relations established between China and the United States.
